About TT2

In April 2007 a consortium comprising Bouygues Travaux Publics (Bouygues TP), HSBC Infrastructure Fund Management Limited (acting in its capacity as general partner for and on behalf of each of the limited partnerships constituting HSBC Infrastructure Fund II), and Bank of Scotland Corporate (part of the HBOS group) was appointed as Preferred Bidder to take forward the New Tyne Crossing project. The successful consortium set up a single purpose, UK-based Concession Company called TT2 Ltd (Tyne Tunnels 2) on 1st October 2007. TT2 was officially appointed as Concessionaire for the New Tyne Crossing in November 2007.
On 1st February 2008 the existing Tunnels, its service delivery and its entire workforce were transferred to TT2.
TT2 is responsible for the design, build, majority finance, and operation of the new vehicle tunnel, the full refurbishment of the existing vehicle tunnel, and operation of all Tyne Tunnels until 2037.

TT2 has contracted Bouygues TP to undertake the design and build of the new Vehicle Tunnel, to upgrade the existing Vehicle Tunnel, and to improve access to both the Pedestrian & Cyclist Tunnels with a strengthened emphasis on Public Transport links.
TT2 is committed to high standards of customer service. Our aim is to operate and manage the Tyne Tunnels in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner.
Managing our environmental impacts
The environmental conditions provided to the customers using the Vehicle Tunnel are monitored continuously. Our sensors not only record the levels of Carbon Monoxide, the Oxides of Nitrogen and Visibility (the amount of smoke in the Tunnel), they also control our ventilation fans. We compare the performance achieved in our 1960s Tunnel to that which is required for newly built tunnels.

This essential actual performance is reported on bimonthly. Our performance consistently out performs the legally required standards and more than satisfies our Duty of Care to all service users.
Eco-Managment and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a voluntary scheme to help us improve our environmental performance. A revised EMAS was introduced in March 2001 and this incorporates ISO 14001 (an international standard which enables organisations to identify and minimise the impact of their operations on the environment and helps to promote continual improvement of environmental performance) as its Environmental Management System (EMS). This EMS allows us to manage our environmental risks and reduce our environmental impact.
A key feature of EMAS is communicating environmental information. We do this by producing an environmental statement, which reports on our environmental performance, and making it publicly available. It is a transparent, robust, credible way of demonstrating our environmental improvement. EMAS also provides an opportunity to demonstrate our compliance with environmental legislation, which is an integral part of the verification process.
