This year has been a challenging one, but at TT2 we’ve been hard at work keeping traffic moving through the Tyne Tunnels, whilst ensuring our staff and customers are safe during these times. We’ve aimed to continue providing a first-class customer service while ensuring the Tyne Tunnels are the most reliable and convenient method of crossing the River Tyne.
What’s happened this year at Tyne Tunnels?
In the first half of this year, we introduced the Pay Later option to save you from using cash at the toll lanes and enabling you to pay for your journey afterwards. More recently, we’ve introduced barrierless operation to our Pre-Paid lanes. Wait for the green light, then pass through the toll lane. This is all in aid of one of our long term projects, Tyne Pass which will see the Tyne Tunnels achieve its goal and become a fully barrierless operation. Have you used our barrierless lanes yet? Pre-paid customers can. Sign up for an account here. You can use barrierless Pre-paid lanes at:
- Northbound lanes 5 & 6
- Southbound lanes 2, 3 & 10
Find out about how barrierless operation works here.
People’s Kitchen and North East Homeless
During these challenging times, it’s important to do our part in helping those in need. This Christmas we’re supporting the People’s Kitchen and the North East Homeless charity who are helping those in need this festive season.
North East Homeless
North East Homeless provide support to those in the North East that are homeless or vulnerable, providing food and supplies to them from their Fish Quay Hub. Here at TT2, all staff are coming together to make up a donation box of some key products the charity need and we’ll be dropping it off at their Hub. Find out how you can help at their website.
The People’s Kitchen We are also supporting The People’s Kitchen this festive season by donating £5 on behalf of each member of staff here at TT2. If you’d also like to get involved and support The People’s Kitchen, you can donate £5 to provide a warm meal to someone in need with their “Feed a friend for a fiver” campaign. Donate here.
What’s coming next year to Tyne Tunnels?
Firstly, we’ll be continuing to make progress with our Tyne Pass project, with the aim of making the Tyne Tunnels a fully barrierless operation, speeding up your journey time, reducing congestion and reducing emissions.
Secondly, we’re working hard on making changes to our service to make your journey more convenient. Here’s some exciting updates coming to Tyne Tunnels next year:
- Apple Pay and Google Pay – for topping up your Pre-paid account.
- Auto top-up facility – set an amount to automatically top up your account with when it hits a chosen threshold.
- Fleet/hire car management – Managing multiple vehicles will never have been easier.
- Full redesign of our mobile App and website – Improving the way you interact with our service.
As we develop our service improvement plans and upgrades to our platforms, we would like to capture our customers thoughts and opinions. To do this we will be contacting account holding customers in the near future to ask for a small group of test users to try our service improvement before its release. Watch out for that email in early January! We’d like to thank you for choosing the Tyne Tunnels, we’ll continue to make it the most reliable crossing of the River Tyne for you.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from TT2.
