Did you know that women make up 47% of the UK workforce, yet remain underrepresented in the transport sector accounting for only 20% of workers?
At Tyne Tunnels we have strived to increase the number of women in our workforce and we are now made up of 45% women, up from just 13% in February 2018!
We aim to encourage more females to join operational roles by using new gender-neutral job titles, offering flexible working for returning to work and childcare commitments and providing training to senior staff on how to support Menopause in the workplace.
This International Women’s Day, we celebrated, supported and educated our teams on common biases women face in the workplace, and especially in the transport industry. Internally, we supplied some interesting books, gave women a platform to say what biases they face, carried out a quiz and received some great advice from our female managers on their previous experience and tips to succeed as a woman.
We are continuing to support, retain and advance women in our workplace.
