Having an online account for your exemption will make travelling smoother and quicker.
How exemptions work on an online account
Step 1 – Sign up
Once you have online access to your account, you can manage your exemption online. Firstly, you will need to fill in an application found here (prompts & assistance on completing the application can be found on the application pages).
Step 2 – Getting started with your account
You can have one vehicle marked against your exemption. If you have a Blue Badge exemption, this can be changed once per calendar month via your online account or by contacting us via phone.
Step 3 – Travelling with your exemption
You no longer need to stop at the Tyne Tunnels. This means once you have had your exemption approved, you can drive straight through without stopping. Our Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras inside the Tunnels detect your Vehicle Registration Number and apply the exemption to your passage.
Renewing your Exemption
Renewing your exemption still applies. You have to do this once per year. You can do this online here following the link to a Blue Badge exemption or Disability Tax exemption form, then select the link in bold text to the renewal form.
