The North East Joint Transport Committee, who owns the Tyne Tunnels, has confirmed from 00:01 on the 1st May 2021, the toll charge for class 2 vehicles (Car, Van or Bus less than 3m high with 2 axles) will be increasing by 10p from £1.80 to £1.90
Pre-paid account holders will still benefit from a 10% discount on every crossing with a new toll of £1.71.
This only applies for class 2 vehicles. Class 3 HGV toll charges will not increase. Ambulances, local buses, police cars and motorbikes will continue to use the tunnels toll-free.
The Tyne Tunnels remain an essential link for residents, visitors and businesses in the region and the tolls generate income which covers the cost to the Joint Transport Committee of the overall running of the Tyne Tunnels, including payments to TT2 Limited for its operation, maintenance and financing costs of building the second tunnel.
Road users will be informed about the forthcoming toll increases via electronic message signs on the approach to each tunnel.
