The tour will begin with a presentation, delving into the history of the Tyne Tunnels. You’ll gain insights into the planning, construction, and evolution of the tunnels. Following the presentation, you’ll have the chance to visit the Tyne Tunnels’ control room.
We will then take a journey to the south extract building where you will get to see the holding tank and pumps that hold the water required in the event of a fire in the tunnels or to the pedestrian and cyclist tunnels to view the historic escalators and tunnels.
Time permitting, you’ll also have the opportunity to experience the thrill of walking a short distance into the emergency escape tunnel.
